Chevy's 2021 trailblazer is the latest in a long line of small crossovers and SUVs which bridges the gap between compact and subcompact models. This new model joins the likes of the Kia Selto and Honda HR-V as well as Jeep Renegade and Mazda CX-3 in this growing segment of mini SUVs and small crossovers.
The new Trailblazer mini-SUV is a capable little vehicle that is very well suited to combining style, safety, and technology into a package that is uniquely Chevy. It is attractive to empty-nesters and young adults, while still being a good family car.
It's a small and light car, but it has decent performance, thanks in part to its turbocharged three-cylinder engine. Along with the engine, Trailblazer also offers front- or four-wheel drive and a nine speed automatic transmission.
There are two trim levels to choose from, the base L and LS. The L has a $19,000 starting price and comes with a 137-horsepower 1.2-liter turbocharged engine. It comes with a continuously-variable automatic transmission (CVT).
The LS is the most sophisticated model, and it comes with a 1.3-liter turbocharged 177 hp engine. It's not quite as powerful as the 1.6 liter turbocharged, but it has better acceleration.
The base LS model comes with features such a remote keyless entrance, Bluetooth, cruise control, infotainment, and tinted Windows. Add-on features include blind-spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and lane shift alert.
You can also opt for a high-definition rearview camera and adaptive cruise control. You can also upgrade your package to the Technology one, which offers Apple CarPlay compatibility and Android Auto as well.
Inside, the Trailblazer ACTIV is fairly well laid out. There are nice cloth seats. And the instrument panel, which is easy to see and includes a driver's information center, can be customised. The center console offers a large amount of storage. You can also fold the back seats to increase cargo capacity.
Trailblazer has a nice driving experience but suffers from potholes and other road imperfections. This is a problem not found in its more expensive competitors, but it could be a deal breaker for some buyers who are looking for a small SUV.
